I'm pretty sure there is no way to eat poison ivy without the risk of a pretty severe reaction. You might be fine or you might die. Don't eat it.

I’ve read about the occasional past medicinal uses of Toxicodendron radicans (eastern poison ivy) and I have read about its limited use as a dye, ink, and mordant. I have not seen however any ethnobotanical database or book ever list this plant as being used as a food source. Could you explain how your iron stomached colleagues prepare this plant for consumption?

hey Trace, did you hear the story on NPR about the recent study results on Dandelions and increased CO2 levels? funny, all they talked about was how folks were going to have to weed more bc dandelions were going to grow so well in the predicted air we'll be coking down in 50 years--but at least we'll have more forage! of course they said poison ivy is going to thrive too, but I have friends who eat that as well . . .

in general--you rock my world. forage on . . .

I appreciate the comments, and will address some of the theories and goals behind this project - as well as some more background - in part three.

Great post ... what you said really hit home.
I've been chasing that 'dream' and have found attempts to be someone I'm not futile.
Maybe I'm still not sure who I am, but I'm getting there. It's nice to see you're on a self-prescribed path. I admire you.

Ah, my friend, you make it seem so easy!

And I'm sure in concept it is, but perhaps a bit less so in practice.
